The capital of Heilongjiang Province, HARBIN is the last major city before you hit the sub-Siberian wilderness and its scattering of oil and mining towns. Harbin, which is originally a Manchu word meaning “a place for drying fishing nets”. It is wildly known for its winter festivities surrounded with beautifully crafted and sculptured Ice Lanterns.
Here are some of the Ice Sculptures I took in 2012.
Who doesn’t love bacon?! Well let’s not ask the vegetarian or pescatarian/pescetarian, because we already know the answer. And I for one doesn’t question anyone’s preference or food diet. To each his own.
Today though, I’d like to talk about breakfast. Yes, you read me ( or heard me), breakfast people! My parents used to tell me ‘eat breakfast sweetie, you’ll need it to be strong and be active today’ or they would say ‘did you know breakfast is the most important meal of the day?’ and blah blah blah…Well, in my younger years those phrases were repeatedly said like a broken recorder. But of course, they’re right or they’re not wrong at all.
Well my point is, breakfast is the first meal after a night’s sleep ( or day time sleep, for those whose schedule are reversed). And generally speaking, breakfast consist of carbohydrates, proteins, fruits and vegetables as well as beverages. In layman’s term bread or cookies, eggs, some greens, coffee or milk and bacon! Yes, you heard me bacon!
Surprisingly, everybody says bacon is an integral part of a breakfast. Is it?!

I’d say there was a time when every child slobbers over dinosaurs or even the mere sound of it! In fact, adults themselves are enthralled with the various data on dinosaur facts over thousands of years, or was that millions?! I know we believe we know a lot about dinosaurs but we also acknowledge we know so little hence, the fervor to know more each day.
Dinosaurs are one of the never-ending story where everyone has this baser yearning of wanting to know the finale primarily on their existence as well as their extinction. This need-to-know longing we have were magnified by the stories we’ve read, movies and TV shows we’ve watched, broadcast and the now and then documentaries shown and published. In fact, pretty much everyone has watched Jurassic Park and we all have had this idea that dinosaurs are beautiful creatures and so lovely we’ve had this fantasy of walking along with them. Correct me if I’m wrong but I do believe we’ve all been dying to know more and see more of this enigmatically amazing creature 🙂
P.S The photo used on this entry was taken by an amazing photographer Mr. Brandon Neal. Thanks man!
I used to say “nice guy” to someone who is in fact nice if not at least ok to hang out with. But I was a bit surprise to have come across the term and learn something new. It says that the phrase “nice guy” are used to describe guys who are anything but nice.
Nice as it turns out is derived from Latin “nescius” meaning ignorant. And this has been carried over into English for almost a century to refer to a guy who is stupid, ignorant or foolish guy.
Needless to say, if I called anyone nice guy, I do refer to genuinely nice person 🙂
Golf is a rich man’s sport I was told! And I’ve visited the Golf Club in my small city here in Tie ling which happens to be visited most by lots of Koreans, Japanese and some people from the business world who enjoys playing golf and betting high stakes! But not me. I’ve been there a few times not because I’m a golfer but I enjoy good scenery and good place for relaxation. Needless to say, the golf course does fit the profile quite well. One of the most serene place I go to whenever I needed so much peace and a breath of fresh air.
Here are some photos I took a few years back in mid-spring.
Education is one of the most important thing one can ever have. The higher the attainment, the better. In fact, I believe it is one of the most valuable asset anyone could achieve. Where there’s education, there exists a teacher as well as a learner. The idea of a teacher is universal such that a teacher can be our parent, our siblings, a teacher by profession, a friend, a colleague or an acquaintance. And a learner is anyone willing to grasp knowledge at hand and for some, anyone willing to learn as much as possible.
Learning is a never ending journey. The day we stopped learning, is the day we’re out of breath. Learning is also a two-way process as we are all familiar with. We’ve heard it a hundred times and perhaps even a thousand times that to be able to learn, one must know how to listen and perceive.
On the other side of the coin is teaching. Teaching for many people is just an employment, a source of income, a source of livelihood. And I wouldn’t lie. I was definitely, I’m one of those people whose apprehension of teaching is alike. And I don’t wanna sound so prim and proper, so dignified because at the beginning of my teaching experiences, I wasn’t so honorable. I taught because I had to earn a living, I had to have financial source. It was merely a job I have to do for money.
But as time is my witness, I have began to love teaching. I started feeling emotions so strange for me at that time. I learn to care for my students. I learn to encourage and little did I know, I began inspiring students. One that started as a need slowly turned into passion. I look forward to instilling optimism, dreams and goals among my students. I began to enjoy teaching more than I have ever imagined.
And one day soon, I received a letter, then comes few more and before the end of every semester I get bunch of letters full of words of appreciation. Imagine the emotion I felt, tears of joy!
Here is one of the letters I received:
Note: This is a letter from one of my students in the college. When I came to China to teach English, there arose various challenges from language barrier, to misunderstanding, cultural difference and a few others. But along the way, it taught many things as well. Communication is the key.
One of the most beautiful sight to look at is the natural scenery that surrounds us. The feeling of serenity is felt. The calming effect is powerful. Freedom from stress, pressure and life’s trivial matters just flows within.
