Education is one of the most important thing one can ever have. The higher the attainment, the better. In fact, I believe it is one of the most valuable asset anyone could achieve. Where there’s education, there exists a teacher as well as a learner. The idea of a teacher is universal such that a teacher can be our parent, our siblings, a teacher by profession, a friend, a colleague or an acquaintance. And a learner is anyone willing to grasp knowledge at hand and for some, anyone willing to learn as much as possible.
Learning is a never ending journey. The day we stopped learning, is the day we’re out of breath. Learning is also a two-way process as we are all familiar with. We’ve heard it a hundred times and perhaps even a thousand times that to be able to learn, one must know how to listen and perceive.
On the other side of the coin is teaching. Teaching for many people is just an employment, a source of income, a source of livelihood. And I wouldn’t lie. I was definitely, I’m one of those people whose apprehension of teaching is alike. And I don’t wanna sound so prim and proper, so dignified because at the beginning of my teaching experiences, I wasn’t so honorable. I taught because I had to earn a living, I had to have financial source. It was merely a job I have to do for money.
But as time is my witness, I have began to love teaching. I started feeling emotions so strange for me at that time. I learn to care for my students. I learn to encourage and little did I know, I began inspiring students. One that started as a need slowly turned into passion. I look forward to instilling optimism, dreams and goals among my students. I began to enjoy teaching more than I have ever imagined.
And one day soon, I received a letter, then comes few more and before the end of every semester I get bunch of letters full of words of appreciation. Imagine the emotion I felt, tears of joy!
Here is one of the letters I received:
Note: This is a letter from one of my students in the college. When I came to China to teach English, there arose various challenges from language barrier, to misunderstanding, cultural difference and a few others. But along the way, it taught many things as well. Communication is the key.
