Going for a short vacation is always pleasant most especially after working almost always 30 days a month for a term. After my last day of work on July 31st, I went home at 7pm and packed a small bag and I was ready to go the next day. There was no meticulous planning or a master itinerary. I just told my younger sister we are headed to Thailand, that is if she wants to join me and she did. We booked our ticket that day and flew from Shenyang to Beijing then Beijing, China to Bangkok, Thailand on August 1, 2013.
Upon arrival to Bangkok, we took the airport link to the last stop then exited. Walked around the city and found a nice, relaxing and reasonable hotel. From there, we just ask random strangers here and there as well as the receptionist what are the good places to visit in Bangkok. We learned that most of the amazing scenery, shows and Thailand’s best are out of Bangkok Central. And so we took it one day at a time 🙂
1. Suvarnabhumi Airport : one of the two international airports in Bangkok. It is dome-shaped and said to be most photographed airport in the world because of it’s unusual shape.
2. Safari World Safari Park : The first of the two division where you can have a close-up look from inside the car of wide variety of wild animals such as zebras, giraffes, lions, tigers, and a whole lot more. You can get so close and actually get to see the stunning beauty of these creatures. Located at Khlong Sam Wa, about 1 hour and 45 minutes away from Bangkok. It feels like a mini-Africa. Amazing experience.
3. Safari World Marine Park : This features different animals from land, air and sea with a jungle theme that makes you feel you’re in the middle of the forest. It also showcase a couple of animal shows like Spy War Action Stunt with amazing water ski, Dolphin Show, Hollywood Cowboy Stunt, Bird Show , Orangutan Boxing and Sea Lion Show, as well as hundreds of exhibits featuring white tigers, fantasy carp garden, Crocodile garden and many others.

4. Elephant Village : Located Damnoen Saduak, Ratchaburi. It’s 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Soi 2 Petchburi. This is where couple of elephants are and people can go for an elephant ride to the jungle as my sister and I did. The elephant ride is 600 Baht per person. We were happy to pay additional 100 Baht for the bananas to feed the elephant during the ride. The elephant guide tried to sell us some ivory jewelry but we politely declined because of the news we read as regard controversies with ivory. The ride was fun and it feels good.
5. Floating Market : It’s about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get here from Petchburi. A floating market is a market where goods are sold from boats. The floating market at Damnoen Saduak is the old traditional way of selling vegetables, fruits, etc. from a small boat. Here they sell delicious coconuts, bananas, mangoes, star fruit, Malacca grape and a whole lot more. People need to bargain for the price since its a tourist destination, price rip off is always evident.
6. Wat Pho : Temple of the Reclining Buddha : Wat Pho, or Wat Phra Chetuphon as it is generally known to the Thais, is mainly famous for the huge Reclining Buddha statue it houses in Phra Nakhon, directly adjacent to Grand Palace ( another magnificent temple you should check out).
7. MBK Mahboonkrong: The largest shopping mall in Thailand at an 8-storey high, with shops, restaurant, service outlets that sells knock off as well as authentic goods. It’s also directly connected to Siam Discovery and Siam Paragon that sells specifically authentic items.
Note: Photo with my younger sis on it.
8. TUK-TUK : common means of public transportation in many countries in the world like Thailand. Also known as a three-wheeler, Samosa, tempo, trishaw, auto, tricycle or mototaxi. The price is quite expensive if I may say and people need to negotiate with the driver. I’d say go for a ride for experience but not as daily transportation.
Note: A photo of me and my sis on a tuk-tuk
9. PATTAYA : a beach resort located at the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. It’s suitable for an all day long swimming and sea activities like para-sailing, diving, short time snorkeling, coral viewing or sailing. If you are one who loves to party all night, with loud noise from music and people, drinking etc…this is the place for you. But if you prefer quite and relaxing I suggest Samui or Phuket.
10. Thai Food : Don’t miss to try Thai food and fruits. They’re tasty and fruits are so fresh and juicy.
